Autodesk’s Infraworks 360 is a fantastically diverse offering for any company’s visualization workflow. When this workflow is combined with the limitless visualization possibilities of 3DS Max, the sky’s the limit of what is possible.
In this 3DS Max, It’s AEC! article, we’re looking at 3DS Max’s Populate feature. Populate allows you to very quickly create lots of convincing animated 3D people. Since Infraworks does not yet support animated mesh deformation (outside of scaling), only Populate people’s unanimated mesh objects could be imported into Infraworks. That’s too bad because the ability to get these animated people into Infraworks 360 would add a convincing layer of realism to your project…what’s that you say, it IS possible? But how?! How can I get my hands on this gem of a script that will add more realism to my Infraworks map therefore winning me work therefore making me look like a hero to my family and my co-workers!?!
In the video below, I am going to show you how to bring animated Populate people from 3DS Max into Infraworks 360. There are a couple of files you’ll need to make it work.
MAX FILE AND SCRIPT DOWNLOAD LINK – This zip file contains the 3DS Max (populateInfraworks.max) file and Maxscript (3dsMaxPopulateToInfraworks.ms) file respectively. You’ll need both to make it work.
Here is the video outlining the steps to recreate
- Get Populate people to follow the undulation of the Z axis
- Get Populate people to show with more appropriate colored clothing
