View Full Version : Issues matching arrows...

Ok sometimes, I wish I could just ditch this entire software and create my own and make millions.

I draw a process line from a tank to the edge of the P&ID, then attach and arrow. Next I go to the linking P&ID, select an arrow, then select to select from a current drawing, select the original P&ID, finally I finish it all up with continuing the line to another process line.

Why does the arrow head on just 1 P&ID become intelligent? If I try to match the non linked arrowhead, it says it's already matched. Yet, it doesnt populate the linked P&ID, nor does it have the 2 stars...

any ideas? This is wasting a lot of my time.

not too sure if this will help, but you can also select the arrow to continue the process line from rather than some other piece of process line... :?

That is usually how I do it.

Draw the process line it is supposed to start one, then draw it to the edge of the P&ID, then attach an arrow to it. Then go to the P&ID it's supposed to link with, then select an arrowhead and tell it to continue from X P&ID. Then I simply tell it to continue the line yada yada...

I have offically tried everything. What the problem seems to be is the arrowheads not getting the Current Drawing name information populated within one of the arrows. For some reason it just doesnt want to show which P&ID it's on..... what a son of a ...... man this sucks.

On the arrowheads.... where does it get the Current DWG Name information?

yep, arrows are a PITA Hybrid! If I have problems like yours I just delete one arrow and start over with it's brother arrow. :/

I hate them so much I don't even use them. The amount of work gernerated just looking after them is not worth it. Use dumb arrows and jsut back draft the changes

to be honest, if that were my call to make for my company...I would do exactly that or wait till the IFC issue to link them...

Yeah the arrow heads are such a joke on this software. I talked with Ron about it and he understood my question and just made me understand the difficulty and time it would take to get the exchange software to get them to work like I want.

I guess im going to just delete this entire P&ID and redraw it. I can't believe I can't find out where the stupid current DWG name is generated from. I have looked everywhere. This is the only thing setting me back from not having to delete the entire P&ID and start over.

Maybe the faces will show how happy I am about these stupid arrows right now

why do you have to redraw the whole P&ID? Just redraw the arrows? :)

edit: you mean NO arrowheads are showing???

not too sure this helps but one of my co-workers says he thinks it comes from the doc_reg key.....

What is happening is the Current DWG Name is not being displayed on any arrowheads of that P&ID. This leads to issues with the arrowheads becoming "intelligent."

Ive tried deleting the lines, arrowheads and doing the whole works... still the same stupid problem.

It has to be something set up for the project for some reason. When I was on the phone with Ron what we did was create a new project on my local drive, named it the exact same as my current project on the network, then copied the entire Projdata folder and then copied the drawings over. This basically made a duplicate project of what I am working on now. The Current DWG Name appeared on that P&ID. So I don't know if it has something to do with like the project.ini or the Lisp file, or whatever else it could possibly be.

Maybe what I have described above will help the light bulb come on somewhere. Picture time..... (not sure if these will work, im trying 2 different sites)

Did you check your PID_TOFR table in projdata database ?
Each arrow exists in there. Check if the keytag exists in KEY_link table and find its's LINK_ID. That should also exist in PID_TLNK, where it links to DOC_REG. If any of these steps is non-existant, that might be caused by an error in the view. If a view is changed in an incorrect way, that might cause an incomplete creation of an object.
Did you make changes to the to-from view ?
Did you try this in a new project, created from base ?

I have no problems using the to-froms, but handle them with great care. I have some queries that help me check the links on them.
