Has anyone used remote desktop to access Datamanager in another office?
Derek
Yep, works great for me. We have a Win2k server running terminal services.

What would the advantage be to using the server vs. just logging into a remote XP machine?
Derek
You can have multiple users on the terminal machine. So while I do Data Manager, someone else is doing thier timesheets, etc...

That makes sense... although it get away from the client-server type of model...

and you only have to have a license on the server and can have unlimited users on that license .... Most sofware vendors (AutoDESK and Bentley don't allow this ..., check the contracts ...)
However, the license only allows for one user at a time. Is what I am doing against the license agreement?

With citrix, you only need to license the server, and you can have unlimited users ... Software needs to be devolpped specially for CITRIX if there are user settings involved that are stored in registry (like AutoCAD profiles). On the internet there are some procedures to overcome this, but AutoDESK states that thet don't support it.
Same for Bentley, but apparentley they are willing to make special agreements ...
(heard this on a user meeting from a company that have succesfully tested DATA Manager on citrix, but aren't allowed to run AutoCAD on it)
So what would be the alternative to buying a citrix server then customizing it for DM. You could purchase half a dozen cheap computers or retire some current ones and use those for remote access. We are having this same problem.
Another problem we are having with this is we can only have one user at a time log-in remotely. We have numerous offices with users needing simultaneous access. How can that be achieved? Data Manager will not allow two simultaneous sessions on the same box no matter the OS.
