Is it possible to achive 100% accurate drawing conversion from dwg to dgn?
Is it a good idea to work in 2D DWG and later convert 100s of drawing in DGN?
Is there any Application available for this? I tried following options but need your opinion on this.
1. simply from dwg to dxf and then dxf to dgn in microstation. (horrible results)
2. using drawing flatener to make draing simpler for conversion. (sometimes good)
3. using V8. (not satisfactory)
4. uisng bentley navigator. (best results)
It contains blocks attributes xrefs and sometimes even images in dwg file.

Thanx!

It's been my experience that using Microstation for every step of the conversion between Autocad and Microstation yields the best results. Why are you doing the DXF step? Just open the drawing file directly.

What glitches are you seeing in the resulting DGN files?

What I use is the Batch Conversion tool inside of V8XM. What are you gettting that is not satisfactory in it?

I worked on this spending 8 hours from company overhead :)
And found that Attributes, blocks and line weights of DWG can not be converted into a DGN. Conversion becomes more complicated if you have 2 different scaled views in a paper space drawing.
I found that Bentley drawing flattener is very useful if you are trying to convert xrefed paper space drawings of AutoCAD.
Secondly If I am not wrong batch convert option in V8 is useful for DGN to DWG conversions only and not for DWG to DGN?
I am trying to load AutoCAD 2009 for more test as some DGN features are available in that too.

Let me know if someone has simpler solution for this.

Thanx & regards,

Hello,

Try opening the DWG file with AutoCAD 2009 and use the dgnexport command to convert the drawing to DGN file. From there you can choose from v7 to v8 format.Be sure to select the proper seed file that you are going to use for the conversion. Also for the lineweight, layer and linetype matter just click the Mapping Setup button and edit its properties.
