updating. What did you think I was going to say?

Does Data Manager have a method of re-updating (synchronizing) the Tag Number field to the individual fields/tag format if I went through and changed one of the fields (via Access) that made it up? Or do I have to do it myself...

Thanks

Derek

I'm assuming he is refering to changing tag numbers in the Data Manager instead of in the P&ID? In that case, unless you have your P&ID setup to Regen External Data when opening... then no it wont update graphically until you open it, and then go to Regen External Data.

I could be way off.

I have a need to change all of the loop numbers on a project (approximately 100 drawings). I can do this by running an update query in Access on the Inum field. If I just update the Inum field this way, it will not update the Tag Number field to match. Is there a built in method in data manager to re-generate (or re-sync) all of the tag numbers in a particular table from the individual separate fields?

I'm just working in the database here, not in the P&IDs.

Sorry about the last message - my sense of humor got away from me...

check out that post...I think we're talking about the same thing except substitute INUM for PNUM...oh yeah, you can change one but it won't affect the tag_no field. That's right...oh did I do that for a whole series of numbers only to have to manually go back and fix them...YES - grumble grumble. And did I only do this after Brandon said "I'd be careful if I waas you" ...YES - grumble grumble

One of the ... frustrating? I guess is the word... things about the database is lack of knowledge about how it works. This can get one in trouble quite quickly. Because of this, I have a tendency to go slow.

I was thinking about this last night, and trying to understand the system.

What exactly does changing the tag format do? I understand WHY you want to have the correct format, but as far as the database goes, is the only thing that changing the format does is change the way the TAG NUMBER field is put together? Are there any other effects?
