Ok I'm going to try and explain this the best I can without confusing everyone and myself.

On multiple P&ID's, I have a specialty steam trap setup I need to insert. The problem is that the amount of lines, tanks, and other equipment needed to be inserted takes up too much room, and there is no room to make them fit.

So, what we decided on was to just create another P&ID, then build all of the specialty traps on that P&ID (I broke the P&ID up into 5 different sections). Then, on the P&ID's that are supposed to have the specialty traps, I am inserting a regular box. (I usually make these an equipment so I can terminate to it). For this project, they actually want to have every line and piece of equipment shown (this is the reason for the seperate P&ID). Usually since this was a specialty item, when ordered from the supplier, it was 1 part number, but for some reason they want to see everything.

Now what I want to do is, build the box, or something to show that the person reading

So to sum all of this up, I'm looking to link lines between P&ID's without using the arrows... I feel like this isnt possible, but I dont know.

I never use arrows to link lines, they are just not reliable enough for me. Just draw the line with the same line number on both drawings, it will ask you if you want to link the lines.... just say yes. the only thing that won't be linked is that they will be separate run id's even if you name them the same. still not a big deal.

we have done something similar with wellhead drawings. the client did not want us to waste time drawing 20 of the same drawings but still wanted all lines to report. So we created a matrix on another drawing with lines off to the side of the border, that way every line still reports to DM.

Not too sure this helps but I see NO need for arrows, most of the time they just don't work anyway.

Duh! I didn't even think about it asking to link them. I guess this is one of the very few times I hit "Yes". I can just make the box a "dumb" drawing and run the lines to it, then on the other P&ID, just make them link. That should work I guess. I wish it would see it as 1 run, but I guess this Autoplant, not Burger King.

If you link them they can still have the same properties as size and spec etc...
