View Full Version : Nozzle Direction Change

What I need is for all of my equipment (vertical vessel) to be rotated from the North to East.
When I simply just rotate the equipment, and edit component on the equipment, the nozzles move back to North facing. I need them to be facing east and remain east.
**NOTE**
This is a lot of equipment, so hopefully no one will chime in saying "start from scratch" or "rotate the nozzles".

Are you using the regular AutoCadd rotate or the AutoPlant rotate.
I have encountered this before and the way I got around it was to use the "proper" rotate command. If you don't know where it is I can have a look, just not something I know off the top of my head. This should work.
Let me know

As far as I know there is no Autoplant Equipment Rotate command. Am I wrong on this? There is an Autoplant piping rotate command, but I dont think this works with equipment.
If you wouldnt mind, see what you did in the past and get back with me. It'd be a big help if I can get this figured out to save some time. Thanks man!

Sorry Hybrid, I was confused between the two programs. Having looked back at my project I believe what we did was to use the Acad command 3D rotate found under the Modify pull down... see attachment
If I recall we used this to rotate the equipment. sorry for the confusion

that doesnt work because when you go to edit component it moves it back in the facing direction it was originally placed (north). Unless we are doing it wrong, that didnt work for us.

Just to make sure I cover all the basis here. Have you tried to rotate the nozzles by just doing an edit component then giving them new directions, or is it that when you edit on them they move back to their original position prior to being able to change them?
I remember this being very frustrating I also remember that I only had one or two vessels and it could be that eventually I found that it would have been easier to just redraw them.

I have encountered this problem before. I ask support of bentley,he said it is no method of solve this problem. He advised rotate the nozzles by just doing an edit component then giving them new directions. He said ACAD command "3D rotate " and "3d mirror" were't use in equipment, because when you go to edit component it moves it back in the facing direction it was originally placed.

Rotating or mirroring vessels produces all sorts of problems, but of course, we seldom know true orientation of the vessel when we are first designing it. In our office, we draw each piece of equipment in it's own drawing at 0,0,0, usually with horizontal vessels running east to west.
We use the rwa to locate and rotate our vessels accordingly. This way, no matter how many times the equipment layouts change, the original orientation of the vessel doesn't have to, just it's position in the RWA changes. And any movement or rotation of the vessel won't affect any other drawings that the equipment is xref'd in - such as vessel drawings.

I am worry about export ISO drawing when use this method.Because it is very strict of connection to export ISO drawing.Have you any problem when you export ISO drawing before?

I assume you are referring to generating isos from autoisogen. We have not encountered any problems with this beyond the standard isogen problems. When you run isogen, you want to ensure that you load your rwa prior to running isos.
