I would like to poll the members of this forum on the following:
How do you setup you model environment?
Do you create your models based on areas?
... on systems?
... or one model per line?
What has worked for you? Has anybody written a procedure for their method?

Why didn't you create the poll? We do our piping models by services in an area.

Since the models we do are skid based modules we model all the piping by line numbers in one model. Except for double deck skids we would model them in separate models.

we have a couple of methods depending on the project. Smaller projects it really just doesn't matter. everything just goes on one model. Larger projects are Module based so the models are broken up into the area the the module will occupy. All services and lines within that area are included in one model

It depends on the size and scope of the job that establish how we setup the drawings.. For larger jobs that will require a lot of plans and elevations, I found the xref’s easier to handle when the layout is done by areas. :)

Anybody have a written procedure we could look at?
