View Full Version : North Arrow Location
Does anyone know how to move the north arrow from one side of the drawing to the other?

are you having Isogen place the north arrow, or are you using a custom boarder with the north arrow already in it?

The .POS file allows you to locate the North arrow (if you are not using a backing frame with one already in it) with the -700 ID.

you can also go into the .opl file and under the tab called Iso Style you can choose between several locations on the page with changing switch#42. top left , top right ...etc
See attached

To clarify AP Monkey's post above: the OPL file controls the DIRECTION of the North Arrow, while its location is controlled by the POS file.
I'm using our title block but having isogen place the north arrow, if I add the -700 to the .pos file what values does the "X POS" and "Y POS" require. See the attached drawing

you can use your cursor to determine what that coord is . just hover over where you want to place it then have a look at the bottom left of your ACAD window to see the coords. you will see what the scale factor of the units are by seeing what the other values are. I think it is in thousanths of an inch

The POS file is in hundredths of a MM so you need to measure in AutoCAD and then convert if necessary.

What I usually do is run an iso then open the dwg and move the north arrow to the desired location. Set the AutoCAD units to decimal. ID the tip of the arrow (this is the insertion point). Convert the XY coordinates with the following formula.
X coordinate X 25.4 X 100 = *.pos X value
Y coordinate X 25.4 X 100 = *.pos Y value
I put coordinates in the "X POS" and "Y POS" in mm x 100 and the north arrow did not move, do I need to have values in the rest of the columns also or is there another location that I also need to change these values.

Go ahead and finish filling out the -700 line like so:
-700 55500 37600 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
Thanks, this worked and I discovered that the final.pos was not in the isogen.fls
