hi everybody..
i have one problem in SPPID...
when i try to open any drawing in drawing manager i am getting some error message...message is
"Error:Cannot create key in Registry"
please help me...B):D
jain, was it working before and now all of a sudden it isn't?
are there any custom dll's running?
Hi Dave...Nice to meet you,
Actually i restored a backup and then i try to open PIDs ...at that time i am getting this error...What you mean by "running other dlls...
I was just curious if you had any customizations in place for the project. Usually these are dll's written in visual basic.
So this error is project specific? Also, what version of SPPID?
I think there is no customizations in this project expect had some new symbols.
when we try to open the drawing it showing that error and the screen will be hang.
the version of PID is 2009(6.00.00.32)

Perhaps this helps:
Close Drawing manager
rename the *.pid file on the file system to *.old with the windows explorer
start the Drawing manager, select the drawing
right mouse menu out-of Date drawings -> update...
If this goes well, you should be able to open the drawing.

In the options manager,
first check the "Settings" section completely and in very detail (does all the files exist in that path loacaions)
I've have seen before that not all values are restored there: some fields may be blank
hi..i tried the both way you said ...still it having the same problem...

but you are unable to open it ?
then the problem seems to be related to the software installation (on that computer) and not related to the database.
Try this:
start Regedt32
go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intergraph\Applications
Delete the key SmartPlant.PID application
(to go back to the default settings, as if it will be the first time you start SPPID on that computer)
Then select
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intergraph
Right-click -> Permissions -> Advanced
Uncheck both the "Allow inheritable permissions... " and "Replace permissions" (choose Copy if you are asked what to do)
Press Apply
Check both the "Allow inheritable permissions... " and "Replace permissions" again
Press Apply again
Yes you do wish to continu..
ok and ok
(This procedure is to restore the permissions in the registry on all Intergraph Software back to normal)
Then try starting SPPID ...
Awesome Patrick. Didn't know about that trick, thanks!
while you're at it you might want to delete the SmatplantPID.ini and SmartPlantManager.INI found in your C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME folder
Hey very Intelligent....The issue solved ...Now i can open drawing...
But when i tried the first step ..i am not able to delete the key. It showing "cannot delete the key"... why it is like that?
Next i tried the second step and followed as you mentioned. Now i can open the drawings...Very very thanks Patrick..
Also could you please tell me why this problem happened?
once again thanks very much.

Well, for some resason, Intergraph software is the only software I know that messes up the security of it's own registry keys.
The procedure is meant to first overrule the securty completely and then re-apply the securty on the main branch "integraph" on all it's subfolders and keys.
It might be that in the advanced tab, you need to switch to the tab "Ownership" and make yourself owner of everything before you can re-apply the inheritance of the securty.
Now i understand clearly....anyway....thanks a lot Patrick.....
