Here at my company, I have been luckily enough to accumulate a folder in which I have started my own little music collection. I grant people permission to enjoy the music throughout the workday but I have been running into a few certain issues.

The folder is stored on my local drive and i share through the network. I simply click on the main folder and add permissions through their email.

When I create a new folder and place it in the root folder, even with the permission granted, they can not access it. I have no clue why they can't. I have given individual access to the folder and it still doesn't work. Is there something I am doing wrong by file sharing like this?

Cliff Notes:

- I share a folder on my local drive company wide via permissions

- Some newer folder within the root folder cannot be accessed

Any help?

did you click the "new share" button in the sharing dialog?

I go to the folder, right click --> properties --> sharing tab

- Share this folder is selected and name Music
- Maximum allowed is selected

I select Permissions now, everyone has just read only access.

When I want to add someone new, I select "Add".

I enter their name and then check the name and select apply. Then they should be able to view and listen to anything within that folder, correct?

Try having everyone turn off thier firewalls.

Bad to be sharing like that. Ties up your network resources. Why wouldn't you get an Ipod or something. We had people here putting mp3's on our drives. When IT cleaned it up, they deleted colse to 400gigs of mp3's that showed up on the network in about 2 months time.

Too right Steve. I am about to block the streaming music port at my work b/c it hogging the bandwidth.

BTW Nick, did the firewall thing work?

Well until IT says it's taking up too much resources and as long as they continue to give me the go ahead, I'll keep providing it. Prior to the move a server was going to be dedicated to just music, but I don't know how realistic that is now. But anyways, that's all off the topic.

I don't want to ask anyone to turn off their firewalls simply because that could leave them open for random stuff to happen. So, maybe they will just have to deal with it :)

Has anyone had any experience dealing with sharing music from an external HD? It should be the same as an internal correct? I'm planning on getting an external so I can bring the music with me wherever I go.
