update from spec

Hi,

We have revised some components from Shop to Field in Piping models using "update component" command. But when we run "update from spec" it reverts components to Shop. Is there any way we can avoid Shop & Field change while running "update from spec" command?

From the AutoPlant help file:
Defining Updateable Fields


Fields will only be updated using the Update from Spec command if they have been marked as such in the Project Administrator application.
Open Project Administrator
Select Database - > Databases node from the project tree.
Select PROJDATA
Click Edit Tables.
Select the PIPING table from the list and click Columns.
The Update from Spec column in this dialog (http://www.davetyner.com/forum/projadmin.chm::/TreeRef/PE_Database_Edit_Tables_Column_Properties.htm) defines whether or not a property is updatable. For example, for the PIPING table in AutoPLANT 3D, this property also controls whether or not a property will appear in the Available Fields list of the Setup > Component Update Preferences command dialog.

Such a perfect solution!

I wonder how someone can anticipate that this setting is specifically for controlling "Update from Spec" command. I thought this is to allow and restrict user to manually change the components in piping Model.

Sameer, I think it does both and that is a design flow in my opinion. The field is actually called Allow User Updates.
