Beyound my control the company has launched 2010 across the board, but they understood V8i still doesn't support 2010. 2008 remains on the Autoplant machine along with the 2010 version. now everytime I launch a Autoplant program I receive a dialog box concerning 2010 window configure. has anybody heard of a work around to stop this? lastest work is May for the V8i 2010 version. A long time to live that dialog box.
we run our AP XM machines on acad2004 for our 3d piping modelling with acad2010 installed for 2d type drawings (with no conflict). not sure how V8i works...but would suggest you check your at.ini file (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\Plant XM\CFG/at.ini)...by way of example...
CADAPP should point to autocad 2008 exe file e.g.
CADAPP=C:\Program Files\AutoCAD 2004\acad.exe
AcadCmdLine should point to your profle e.g.
AcadCmdLine=/p "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\Plant XM\AutoPLANT_PDW89ACAD_201_409.arg" /b loadpiping
cadapp

Of course you worked this out already by yourself but here it is. The correct path would be c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Bentley\Plant V8i\CFG\AT.INI for V8i.
And autocad 2008 could be found in c:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2008\acad.exe (or c:\Program Files\Autodesk\MDT 2008\acad.exe for mechanical desktop.) On both the CADAPP line of AutoPLANT and if needed also for you App.
The lastest profile can be found in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bentley\Plant V8i\ here you can find the latest profile (.arg file). to put behind the AcadCmdLine in the AT.ini file.

Autodesk has gotten back and has pointed me to a tech article.
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS14174241
this however is for 3D map, I'm working with IT to see if it will work for autocad 2010.
the at.ini is pointing to 2008 like we need. and AutoPlant V8i does launch and fuction correctly after it runs the windows config.

It looks like a very good solution but not for your problem.
Have you fixed the problem yet or didn't we give the right solution or didn't we understand you problem?

still waiting for IT to assist, but your suggestion were not on track with my problem. once we test the autodesk suggestion or find a fix I will post for others.

After more research we have found a cure for this. using the link below and following the couple steps, I stopped receiving the dialog box message. the fact its for Revit doesn't matter in this case. the only thing different I found is I didn't have the extracted file in the folder I was told to place it in. No matter the problem has went away with the extracted file being placed in the folder.

Also, note that AutoPlant Select Series 2 will support ONLY the 32-bit versions of AutoCAD 2010 and 2011. And since AutoCAD 2010 & 2011 will only install 64-bit versions of themselves on 64-bit version of Windows 7, this forces your operating system to be 32-bit as well (barring using a virtual machine). Thanks, Bentley.

Helpful info... Thanks for this! I was a bit worried about this migration. We have been using a VM for production for a while... It has drawbacks for sure but this kind of situation seems suited to using one. Now - how to explain the need for 48 Gb of RAM in a workstation :-p

I have heard from Bentley this morning that the 21st of May is the release date for the V8i 2010.

Well Guy, I just heard from Bentley and they pushed the release back. I had thought since it was two weeks away and 2 Bentley personnel had told me May 21 it was solid. I will refrain from posting any other release info intil its happened.

Nope Andersun
May 21 came, May 21 went. no update ready for download. But no worries, we have a new promised date. On May 28 the update will be available for sure.

Now it looks like November 2010, and still ONLY A 32-BIT VERSION?!?!?!? I am extremely disappointed!

when I spoke with our rep last week he told me that he expected to see the release this week. He did say that they NEVER intended on releasing a 64 bit version. Seems a bit stupid to me

I received a Bentley Survey right after I got the bad news on the once again pushed back release. They did ask if you would like 64 bit. I informed them yes and than I also gave it to them when they asked If I was going to update and when. "As soon as you get around to releasing the 2010 we have been wait forever on". It at least felt good to vent to them.

Bentley should send more surveys to allow us to vent steam that surely would create a better user experience. Or maybe they could release the update when they are promised. As I recall correctly we are now waiting on the service update for November 2009.

yes it is since November, but if you recall when someone from Bentley on this site stated it would be released in November I was quick to note that he never did say WHAT YEAR. :)

it's nice to see that a junket to the BE Conference is more important to the execs than keeping the customers around the world happy.

I guess only Microsoft and Apple can pull off new product releases and annual user conferences at the same time. Hoodathunk...
