Sorry for the long title, but I wanted to have it very specific for search purposes. This is a 2 part question too.
PART I:
I am trying to take instrument numbers and change them from whatever they are to #B# since they all need to be reviewed by the engineer.
The options given are: None, Increment By, Find/Replace, Change Number, Next Available, Next Available, Increment As Required.
- So what I have tried is selecting Find/Replace
- Once that is selected the new dialog box pops up asking for the adjustment (which is Find/Replace). Then for the values field and new box pops up.
- Now it ask for the Existing INUM and the New INUM.
For the Existing INUM field, I have tried 312 (since all of my instruments on this P&ID start with those 3 digits), I have tried leaving it blank and for the New INUM I put #B#. Nothing has worked so far.
Has anyone has sucess in being able to replace the numbers with #B#?
PART II:
I am trying to change my tag numbers for valves from V314XX to V3114XX. The XX is the actual number which does not need to change, the 3 digits changing to 4 is the actual P&ID number.
So does anyone have any input on this?

Sore subject I guess :) I sure wish tech support would pick up the phone, I have 22 more DWG's to do.

I spoke with Brandon over the phone and ended up doing a Live Meeting setup. This is what we came across:
changing tags number from a number to #B# isnt possible... so we don't think. He is checking in with his developers to find out if this is the case or not. Logically, you should select 'Change Number' or 'Find/Replace' and then input #B#. Choosing 'Find/Replace' allows you to type in #B# whereas the 'Change Number' option does not.
If you are trying to change numbers starting with, lets say 3, and you type *3* as the number to find, it skips all of them. At least it did for me. So I dont recommend that or you will have some issues with duplicate numbering.
As far as increasing a valve number up X values. It also was some what of a mystery. Since I use a prefix of 'V' in my valve number, it causes conflict when trying to increase. The software gives you 6 spaces to increase a number by, so I knew I needed to increase 28000. When I told it to increase my valve numbers it placed 028000 in front of all of the valve numbers. Kinda odd if you ask me, but that's what it did. So that didn't work either, I believe he is checking into that for me as well.

Fun stuff....
I'm here on a Saturday, exchanging drawings....
The easiest way to change tag numbers in the manner you want to do is to create all of your new drawings using a dummy tag (we put Xs on the end), and then go into the database and update them there (update queries, find/replace, etc.). A pain in the ass, I know... but the best way to do it I know of.
Derek
Yeah using Exchange drawings and assemblies dialog box tagging is a pain in the ass. First, it's totally unreliable, you have to make sure to click inside of another box after you make your changes, it doesn't work if your tag contains letters, there is no documentation that supports it,...etc. I was going to post an email I had from two years ago where I submitted a ticket on this exact issue. Funny thing is if they could get it working it would be a HUGE time saver in drafting of PIDs
I'm here on a Saturday drawing P&ID's - fun! :D

Saturday I was in the garage working on my restoration project.
Do you guys get paid for working weekends? Here they prefer us to work later during the week that way they don’t have to pay us overtime. If we have to work weekends it is little pulling teeth. It is expected for us to work later during the week :(

Yes, I get paid for working weekends. Right now, we are so busy that I have to once or twice a month. A lot of our projects have damage payments associated with project milestones, so it's cheaper to pay some overtime and get things done on time.
What are you restoring?

Yeah forget this AutoPLANT stuff... what are you restoring? Currently my father and I are undertaking a 1976 CJ-7 with a LS1 swap :)
I am in the same boat as Dave. I have so much work today, I've actually kinda of been told I have to work OT. Granted legally, they can't tell me that, but still, they made it very clear that I should. Saturdays are nothing new to me, I usually just put my headphones on and work without distractions.

Hybridawd,
We are in the same boat when it comes time to work more. Like you said they can't force you but they give us the same old jargon like you get.
For my restoration project:
I am in frame off restoration of a 1931 Packard that has been in the family since 1958. My father bought it from my Great Uncle in 1988 and when my father passed away in 1996 at the young age of 54 he left it in my care. I started the restoration about 1 ½ ago. So as you can see when warmer weather hits my weekends are going to be pretty well booked.
Sorry for taking over thread back to the AutoPLANT Q and A’s….
