View Full Version : permission group and task name
the permission group name and task name should be same or not????If not how will the system identify respective task for respective permission group?Consider the scenario, for example if i have a permission group named "JAY" and inside o this there are three piping users called "pipe1,pipe2,pipe3". Now the user pipe1 logged in and set the permission group into JAY and then try to select piping task . i will work or not??If it works how the system knows JAY for piping task? Because we are not giving any task option when we creating permission group ,we are only giving username.
i am very much confused on this? Can anybody advice for this? THanks very much in advance.

Permission groups in SP3D are very much like Windows permission groups. The name of the permission group has nothing to do with your access to windows folder or to what you store in that folder.
In SP3D the user can only create objects in a hierarchy location in which they have access to. If they have access to the Permission Group Piping but not to the PG Electrical then any folder with the Electrical Permission group they can not create anything.
Also in SP3D the permission groups list for any user, will only contain the permission groups of which the current user has access to. These are used to set the permission group of the object being placed.
Using the same example from above and giving the same user access to your permission grou Jay, they would now have access to Piping and Jay but not to Electrical.
Given a location in the system hierarchy called 'Place Stuff Here' which has its permission group set to Piping. Our user could place objects under that folder as they have access to Piping and the objects that they place could have either Permission group Piping or Jay.
Make sense?
so if this is the case then we should specify the appropriate permission group for the respective hierarchy item in the system and specification task, right? this is must or not?i mean will it take automatic?
Also the user still have access to the System and Specification task from the task list and they can modify the permission groups by themself ...right?
In some cases i have seen that if we not specified the proper hierarchy ,then the item automatically goes under plant. can we block this?
Please sorry if these are silly questions..Thanks

Permission groups are created / modified via Project Manager. Users / designer stations should not have this installed. When installing software on their machines use the defaults only.
The admin MUST specify the pg for each 'folder' in each hierarchy (system, drawings, space management, WBS). Create an Admin permission group giving only Admins access. Use it to create all systems. Once they are created go back and give permissions to the folders where the designers will need access and ONLY those folders.
As an example
Project
...Unit
..... Area
....... Module1
......... Civil
......... Electrical
......... Instrumentation
......... Piping
........... Equipment
........... Pipe
............. PipeLine1
All would have the Admin PG except
Civil folder would have a Civil PG
Electrical folder the Electrical PG
Instrmentation an Instrument PG (or possibly the Electrical PG).
Piping folder would be Admin.
Equipment would have the Piping PG
Pipe would have the Piping PG (designers create thier own pipelines
Pipeline1 would be the Piping PG
If a user does go into systems and specs all they could do would be to create items under folders they have access to, delete items they have access to or modify the items they have access to.
Unfortunately there is no way to prevent certain items from being placed in the Root folders (equipment, structural items, volumes)
hi..
THANKS FOR YOUR DETAILED INFORMATION...now i am clear with the concepts...Thanks very much once again
