I'm trying to create a new project by importing exchange drawings from some of our other projects. The problem I'm running into is that the new project has different tag codes from the older projects, and the program is parsing the older tags incorrectly when bringing them in, thus leading to bad drawings.

Has anyone run across this before, and is there a way to do a better job of redoing the codes?

Derek,
Have you tried manually changing the tagging when you exchange the drawing and open it for the first time?
I know when I changed my instruments from having Area-Type-Number to Type-Number, I had a lot of headaches correcting them, but it was worth it in the long run. Hopefully I am on the same track as you and understand what you are asking.

You are on the right track... That's probably what I'll have to do. I was hoping for something a little more automated. Here's an example of the problem:

The old project has an Instrument tag code of B-A-T-N, where B=Unit, A=Area, T=type and N=Number. Another factor is that the Area numbers in this project are in numerical sequence: 30, 40, 50, etc.

The new project has a Instrument tag code of B'A-T-N. The new Area designations are letters, so this works, until you exchange a drawing in from the old project. Then the exchange drawing's old tags are reparsed incorrectly, with the Unit and Area ending up in one field, nothing in the Type, and the old Type and Number ending up in the number field.

What a pain.

you could also window in the components in P&ID and change the tag value via the update tag > global command...

Hey Derek I just thought of something else.

Under Tag_Reg, see if the exchanged drawing keeps the same Tag_Code field. you might be able to go in and edit it through the tag_reg. I'm not 100% sure, but it might be worth a shot.
I don't know if the exchanged drawing is bringing in the old format or if it's using current tag info and trying to arrange it to work with the new code.
