we have not really outsourced but have tried work sharing all over the world, but without much success. From what we have found you need to have Project Wise to do it properly.

we use a couple of outsourcing companies currently but we are trying to get everything in house. The reason behind this is because it's a whole lot easier to manage them in house.
If I had the choice, I wouldn't outsource, but sometimes you just have to. A fellow employee and myself have really thought about doing P&ID's on the side and or opening up our own little company. The money being paid out to outsourcing is unreal. I'll PM you the company we use.

Dave,
We have just sent out our second project to be work on by an outside firm. It is amazing what they charge. What gets me is if they don't have all the info they will put the project on hold. Boy if we were to do that we have our heads in a ringer.
Like HybridAWD said I also prefer to keep them in house.

I'll do sidework on the weekends :) I'll charge 1/2 of what outsourced companies would charge and still make bank.
I'll just need some CAD standards to review and you APCUSTDIR :)
i think we were getting charges $30/40hr and a minimum of 46hr per P&ID. Or something stupid like that. And to top it all off, they completely screwed the project up and still got paid some cash. Go figure. Oh and one more thing on top of that... they told us they knew P&ID's, turns out the money we were paying them just turned into training for them. We found that out and they no longer have any of our P&ID's. This was an overseas company.

What's worse than them estimating 46hr/pid is that your company actually thought there was enough ROI there to sign the deal. lol

Trust me, some of the decisions made my this company are made by the not so brightest crayon in this box.
