Does anyone know if it is possible to have AutoPLANT look in one central location for the access.mdb file rather than have one in each Root location. I want to set up a system where I can have many roots with only one access.mdb

Brian,
As far as I am aware it is not possible. With some of the changes Bentley has made to ProjectWise it might be different, but it would require all projects to be ProjectWise Integrated. Even then I'm not certain it would be any different than the project roots.

I know I am probably dream'n but if you don't ask the question....
another thought is to only have ONE root with as many projects under that as you want. Since it is Access there should not be a limit to the amount of projects that the access.mdb file can handle.

The access.mdb would not limit the number of projects, since it has no project related content (though its content is used in the projects).
The limitation for the number of projects is in at_proj.dbf, which has a list of the projects in the root. Each project has a unique number which is 4 digit based, so 9999 would seem to be the maximum, but after that, every project gets a proj_id of 07PS (on my system ...) and there seems to be no limitation in number.

so it appears that there may also be a back door way of doing this... here is a response from Bentley.....
Interesting question ... which made me wonder what was to stop me linking the remote root ACCESS.MDB to the master root ACCESS.MDB ...
Well it would seem there is nothing ... and from my initial tests it seems to work ...
Here is what I did
BACKED UP MY ACCESS.MDB ...
Opened the remote ACCESS.MDB and deleted all of the tables ... not a nice feeling ...
Then linked ... via a linked table to the master ACCESS.MDB
Then selected all of the tables
Then closed the ACCESS.MDB
Opened Vision ... all worked as expected ... could login
Opened Project Administrator ... logged into the REMOTE location and made a change to a User and noted this was saved.
If you want me to check anything else ... let me know ...
PS : Of course if you used ProjectWise you would have the ability to login into AutoPLANT with your Windows logins ...

Repair Access database (http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/access.html) is able to work with corrupted and deleted ms access files after viruses, hdd failures, system errors. The software can work under any system configuration.
