View Full Version : BE Conference Update

Well, being my 2nd year at the conference. I honestly thought Charlotte was a lot better. The conference itself is not bad, however, dont attempt to eat in downtown LA on the weekend... nothing is open. Secondly, Charlotte had places to eat right outside of the convention center... LA doesn't.
I dont think I have ever been asked for spare change so many times in my life. LA is a bit dirty I would say, kinda disappointing overall. I have been seeing some beautiful cars however. That's the upside of all the high class I guess.
My hotel room at the Sheraton is fantastic as well. It's on the 21st floor, and a corner room. What that leads to is floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides of the room, it's somewhat scary looking down.
The food here is kind of expensive, but not really. Subway was still $8, IHOP was still the average. However, due to everything being closed down on the weekends, we were somewhat forced to eat a $23 breafast... >_<
Well, I have a bunch of pictures and some video footage I'll upload when I return next week, so stay tuned.

Im hanging out in the E-Learn right now, they are offering tons of free E-learning, so I am taking full advantage.
-- XM edition of P&ID has so many new features that I think will help out tremendously overall.
-- Breifcase Mode looks very nice for 3D, however, there are still some things users can screw up... nothing new right?
-- Autopipe is a fairly easy program. We sat in on it and picked it up right away.
That is all for now....
cool Hybrid, thanks for the update. Distribute the site URL around while your there :D

Oh so I get to pay the membership fee for the rest of my life..... bummer ;)
Definitely have your people talk to their people to talk with my people's people.
P&ID class.... here I come.
Oh and P.S. I dont know if yall can still access the fee training, but if you go to the Bentley training website, they are offering free EDemand training. I signed up for over "$16,000" worth of classes. It's all the learn at your own pace stuff, but it still might be worth it to check out.
Hybrid, are you still there? How's it going? Give us an update when you can B)
So how did it go? Damnit man we are on pins and needles here!! :P Let me know if you need some space to upload the pictures to. Maybe you want to do a little write up and we can post it to a web page.

I would agree on all counts execpt the breakfast and the subway. You could get day passes for the subway for 3 dollars. I bouoght 2 the whole time i was there. And Denny's was just up the street from the convention center and they had great deals for 5.99.
Well that was my first convention and likely my last. I didn't learn huge amouts that made it fully worth the amount charged. I had a great time, met plenty of people from Bentley and other companies that made the atmosphere good, but the lack of ability to follow throw on the training made that part suck.
Thanks Steve! Was the training "real" training or did they herd you through for the next group? Did they answer a lot of questions? What could they have improved on?

Ok so 2 things were open, Denny's and IHOP. :)
Bentley is unable to provided true training on any of their software that incorporates the use of AutoCAD. I finally had this explained to me, basically they arent allowed to use autocad licensing from training purposes. That is why they no longer offer classroom training from AutoPLANT.
As far as actual training for other things... they had a wide variety available. AutoPIPE was an actual training class, and there was some ProjectWise stuff... etc.
Sorry I was a bit non-responsive the last couple of days, I had a lot to do in such a little amount of time. Between the two of us Delta-T employees who went, we have close to 700 pictures. Now granted, not all of them are of just the conference. We were able to actually go do stuff at night.
We ended up going to a TV show taping called "the next best thing", checked out Universal Studios, Six Flags, the dirty Jewelry district, a Dodger baseball game. So I was able to actually get away from the hotel after classes ended. So we were definitely busy.
I'd say the whole training part was ok... nothing amazing. Nothing new on P&ID other than me running through the help files with XM. And I must say, XM looks very good.
We scheduled 2 different times with Brandon M. to actually talk about some issues we were having and getting his input on some items.
So if I can get my flash drive to work in my home computer >_< I will have them all uploaded. I might have to do it via Webshots or something.
Also, I asked the question of next years event, from what the rumor is, Chicago. I heard it's similar to LA and if that's the case... I dunno if I'll go. We shall see!

Well you did more than I did after class. I spent my time going from Bar to Bar :D. I did also make it around LA, but don't have near the photos to show.
As for the training. I would say it was still not very advanced. Most of the classes they still talk out of their training manuals. but any questions I asked were answered the best they could with the little resources they had on hand. Some of the traininers did have autocad on their personal machines, so they were able to demonstrate some on the overhead screens. I'm not a P&ID guy but I did sit in a couple of classes and learned some good relationships to the 3d. I also got to meet Brandon and a couple others from the Tech side.
My only downside, I don't think I met anyone from this site while I was there.
HybridAWD

Yeah I didn't meet anyone from the site either. I sat in for the first half of the P&ID class and was bored out of my mind.... so I didn't go back for part 2. I ended up getting only 3 business cards:
Stephen Carveth - Praxiar, Inc.
Laura Meier - Bentley Systems
James Rope - Abencs Engineering
I was going to ask for more from the people in the P&ID class, but I just didnt... shame on me.
I do agree with you on the technical question side of things. It's hard to get good answers. When I sat down with Brandon, we went through some things I run across and he jotted them down and said he would get back to me. Plus one thing I ran across seemed to be fixed in XM.

Ok I'm uploading them all. There is still more since this is only the pictures from my co-workers class. Some are of the places we went such as Santa Monica Pier, Universal and Six Flags. So I'll sort through those and delete them since I could preview the pictures.
