Hi,:)

I am new in AutoPlant environment. I have completed a test project creation step. and now I don’t know how to proceed with following points:

1. How to create models in each discipline like piping, equip, elect, struc etc.
Is it like load AutoPlant then respective disciplined then open new drawing and save as the drawing with specific name in specific folder and that’s it? Pl. advice.

2. How to load/configure AutoPlant on user m/c.?

3. What is the best way to create directory structure w.r.t. master files, rwa, interference files etc?

4. How comfortable you people are with AutoPlant 2004?

5. Can we load & run two projects at a time from one workstation?

6. What precautions one should take before setting up a new AutoPlant project in 2004 version.

I have 10 years of PDS experience out of 6 in administration.

Pl. spare some time to help me.

Thanx in advance,

Sameer,:)

Sameer,

Welcome to the forum, there are lots of people with good knowledge that will help you. They will need more info too. What types of database enviroment? Access, SQL or Oracle? #of users? and the experience level of your users.

I will try and answer what I can.
1. Use Vision or document manager to create/delete your files. It will allow you to put your files in your project directories and create the proper links in your databases. Were your projects are setup can be seperate location from the storage of your drawing files.
2. Just install on each machine in the default location for the config files. It's then the easyist to find files when asking for support help.
3. We seperate the different disiplines files for better security (based on network security). Pipers can't change civil etc. And then under each disipline we sepeate the different types of files. RWA, Piping etc.
4. All based on levels of experience. We have some that have been using for years, others only weeks.
5. You can run as many projects as you like, but it also depends on how you set up your projects too. Basicly the database formats etc.
6. If your new to this, read, read, read and then ask questions if you need help.

Good Luck
Steve

Hi Steve,

Thanx for your valuable words, this would definitely help me a lot. i will keep reading as i don’t have any other option for now, and would come back with some decent queries on this website.
I am using SQL database & Bentley AutoPLANT Plant Design 2004 Edition SELECT Update 2 Version: 8.6.1. With 1# Elect, 1#Civil, 4# Pipers and an administrator my self. With no AP database and setup experience.
I could manage Isometrics, explorer, explorer ID very well as i have some experience on that.

I would appreciate if I could get some procedure made by administrator and 'FRP' spec file if possible.

Thanx again and see you soon,

Best regards,

Sameer:)

I have sent you an email on a procedure. As for specs, I have to create an FRP spec in the near future, but it will be proprietary and I can't give it out. If it was a generic spec I would, But it is client specfic.

Keep reading the posts here. Maybe some of your questions have already been posted.
