Unpacking older versions

Does anyone know if the latest AP version can unpack a older version say 2004 or XM, or do you need to unpack in the version then upgrade?

always best to unpack in the proper version the upgrade. I have had little to NO luck at all doing it the way you would EXPECT. sorry

I've just finished upgrading about 30 projects from 2004, I needed to uprade them, as v8i will not open the files. As Aplant Monkey said, you will need to have the correct version installed to unpack it, then upgrade it as per the Bentley documentation.
